Slave to Canon Stamp by SanctusRequiem Slave to Canon Stamp by SanctusRequiem
Simple, but I think it gets the point across.

I'm not a frequent stamp maker; hell, this is my first one. But I felt that this point needed to be made. (If you have any pointers about the layout or anything, I'd be glad to hear them.)

I am not a slave to canon. I am a slasher/shipper/younameit. I don't believe Tonks and Lupin should even be in the same dimension. Kairi and Sora have less depth than a puddle in Arizona. Will only loved Elizabeth because she was frigging sexy.

That isn't to say I hate all canon, I'm simply not tied down by it. I think that most canon pairings are created simply to increase the span of an audience, as most people (mainly women) enjoy romance in their fandoms. I know I certainly do, but hetero pairings aren't something that really appeal to me in fiction.

Personally, I'd love it if someone slashed my characters together, it would be so entertaining for me. (do it) But that might just be me 8D

So...stop hating. I bet you like something equally weird, don't focus your hatred on one fandom. There's plenty of weird fetishes to go around.

Y'know the drill, copy and paste the thumbnail code into you journal for best results :]

I stick to canon just because...I dunno, it feels wasteful to me to get invested in an idea that directly contradicts it? If I'm going to actually love something, then I naturally want to accept it as "real" at least on some parallel plane of existence, so the notion of there being infinite possibilities to accommodate everybody's wants doesn't sit right with me...it's like, why like or desire or hope for anything if someone else can just go, "Well I disagree and here's what's true in my mind." I definitely come up with loads of ideas that I believe in very firmly, but they're developed to add onto and extend and enrich canon, not contradict it. I like everything to be reconcilable. I'm female, but I don't demand romance unless I see two characters I strongly believe should be together. I've got a couple of LGBT pairings...both from a musical, incidentally. xD I fully support LGBT rights/gay marriage, it's just that I tend to see most fictional people as straight because that generally seems to be the creators' intent in most cases. Of course non-straight couples have become much more common in recent times (I've heard of certain ones in YA and superhero series that I don't like all that much, but applaud for being inclusive.)
And I do like Remadora, even though they're not my favorite HP characters. Well, Remus is my favorite Marauder, anyway.

But indeed, no hate. Everyone's got the right to like what they like and play around with whatever they feel like playing with. Ship as you please. Use your imagination. Feel free to think beyond what's presented on the screen or page. Indulge your harmless fetishes. Have fun. =D

Sometimes canon makes a decision I don't agree with. So, what I do is I disregard that decision and pretend that it didn't happen. Screw canon!

If all fan art followed the canon, fan art would be dull and boring and unoriginal.

I have very few canon ships (The only main canon ships I like are gay anyways- Bubbline and Creek) so I'm a big supporter of slash. I'm definitely using this

I love this stamp~. I'd have to agree. I don't like a lot of canon pairings because most of them seem so typical to me (and usually have misogynistic undertones). Though, some of them I like quite a lot. I really just prefer something different and spicy in my pairings~.

Heck, some canon ships don't even go together well in my opinion. Look at Yuno and Yuki... They were kind of in a relationship?? It was a bit confusing, but it was a very unhealthy one either way. I'd say Akise X Yuki would be better, although *********FUTURE DIARY SPOILERS**********right after Akise's death, Yuki forgot about it pretty quickly and Akise never really was mentioned after his death by Yuki.

I totally agree, and this doesn't even just apply to character relationships. There have been times where I've seen more interesting characters/situations/backstories from fans than the creators themselves.

Depends on how far out of cannon it is. But in essence this stamp is saying you somehow have a right to hijack someone else's creation and alter what you please

I'm glad I'm not the only one who got flak for enjoying pairings that are non canon. This is one of the reasons why I left several fandoms. This may sound harsh, and most likely I might get flamed for speaking my mind, but I don't care, this needs to be heard. Purists are control freaks and hypocritical. Yes, purists can be hypocrites too, not just slash fans. I stopped writing fan fiction because purists would not stop badgering me to write the story their way and if I don't conform then they see me as less of a fan. I say bullshit. There is no such thing as a "true fan". I had never been against canon; its just has a habit of being a little tiring and repetitive, what is wrong with trying something that is different? I thought being different was a good thing?

And how are purists hypocritical? I've seen them take the characterizations and make them out of context, too. Then they bash slash fans for doing the exact same thing. Ugh, it is enough to make me pull my hair out. It is not just slash fans that get attacked; het pairings that are not canon get attacked, too.  Also, if the creator does anything with the characters and the fans don't like them, all hell breaks loose. Canon purists like to demand character development; when they get it and it doesn't work out in the way they want it, they throw a huge temper tantrum that makes five year olds seem sweet. That is why I call them hypocrites in the first place.

The truth is all fandom has, and never will be, canon. The only thing that is canon is what you see on the screen, read the book, etc. That doesn't mean you have to agree with everything the creator does and says. This makes me feel like a kiss-asser and a sheep.

For me it depends on my views on the canon, for example I personally like to follow the Harry Potter and LOTR canon because I believe they have been well structured. However, being a history buff myself I have lost a lot of faith in the Hetalia canon and cannot bring myself to follow it as I cannot handle inaccuracies very well. I make my own historically accurate interpretations instead.

I don't mind if somebody wants to follow the canon as long as they are not just jumping on the bandwagon or are being pressured into doing so.

I will admit, I ship a lot of canon pairings, or pairings that seem likely. Probably because a lot of the time I feel that canon pairings are often made to be together, and just separating some of them after all they've been through seems...wrong. But there are some non-canon pairings I prefer WAY more than canon.

I mean, am I only one who prefers Quasimodo/Esmeralda, Goku/Bulma, Harry/Hermione, Sheldon/Penny, and Jack/Elizabeth? Anyone? :hmm:

Hell in the original book (if I recall correctly), Quasimodo and Esmeralda actually did get together, Phoebes was just added in. :/

Crack ships are more fun anyway. Also, just because a pairing is canon doesn't mean that it's well-written or that the characters are even compatible with each other. Plenty of canon romance is badly written. Plenty of canon romance is badly written and shallow and turns the people involved into unlikable characters who throw others under the bus because their romance was "meant to be". Plenty of canon romance involves a hell of a lot of "telling" instead of "showing" and a lot of it is just there for fanservice and sex scenes. There are canon pairings that I like, canon pairings that I hate, and also fanon pairings that I like or hate. But the fact is, just because something is canon doesn't mean that it's well-written or good. Deal with it.

Not too familiar with most of the pairings there because I haven't watched the pirate movies in a long time, but I kind of have to agree with you about Lupin and Tonks. It's completely random and it involves a lot of "telling" instead of showing. I don't completely hate it and I though it was okay when it first came up, but it's not that convincing of a pairing to me and I'm not even sure how much JK Rowling likes it since she was going to derail Lupin into an asshole who abandoned his wife while she was pregnant. Gee, maybe if you were so worried about having a werewolf baby, you shouldn't have banged her in the first place.

My parings are so far away from canon that it would be completely pointless to even say anything to me. But they're still not AU(or OCs) because it doesn't even affect the main characters that are in the story. Legendaryshipping for the win.

Besides that, thank you for making this stamp, it desperately needed to be said.

Sometimes people ask me 'Why do you ship them together if they've never met or interacted with each other?' It's true I used to think like that, but sometimes shipping only canon pairings got boring for me so thus I got into the yaoi/slash fandom and experiemented with other pairs ^^ And I agree with you XD If I become an author, I think I'd be entertained to if someone slashed my characters together I wouldn't have a problem with it what so ever :3

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that what so ever! I personally find fanon shipping more fun then shipping canon couples ^^ Now if people only like canonxcanon that's fine with me but don't bash people who don't like what the author likes. The author's words may be 'final' but at the end of the day we're all entitled to think differently on what we like :)

People say Levi/Petra for Attack on Titan is 'canon' for example but in all honesty it's not really clear at all to us if Levi only saw Petra as a comrade or a love interest.

Hmm... I don't remember who Petra was from Attack on Titan (it's been a while since I watched the show - I only picked up a few people's names), but I know that people like shipping him with Eren. I should probably read the manga, too. I also wanted to read the Berserk manga, but for some reason can't force myself to, even though I really want to read them. I think I might be getting too lazy to do fun things.. :XD:

She was in Levi's squad and ended up murdered by the Female Titan while making sure Eren got back to headquarters or something *shudders* I hated that part in the episode. But anywho: Yeah there's a ton of Levi/Eren shippers out there ha ha X'3 Have to admit there are some good stories I've read about them but ultimately I think Levi/Erwin is more of my OTP :) The manga's really good so far from what I've read which is only up to volume three for me ^^; It moves at a good pace.

Oh I think I've heard of Berserk but never got around either to reading the manga or watching the anime. XD I know what you mean though. I have a lot of animes I'd like to watch in my favorites but I never get around to watching them.

I write a lot of alternate universe fanfics. So the characters are different for a reason.

But what I hate is characters being paired in slash/hetero fics only for their good looks. If that's not superficial, I dunno what is?
